Texas Tech's position for president has now officially been filled.  Guy H. Bailey is expected to take the position.  Bailey has been Chancellor of the University of Missouri-Kansas City since 2006.  He has more than 27 years of experience in higher education.  His wife, Jan Tillery-Bailey, is a Tech graduate who grew up in Lubbock.

Bailey will replace Jon Whitmore, who announced in February he would resign from Tech.  Today, Chancellor Kent Hance says he's confident they picked the right man for the job.

"He's been a great administrator, that he understands the cost of education, he understands the funding of higher education, that he's been involved in the Texas legislative process and yet he's been a dean, he's been a vice president for research, he's been a provost....he's the right person for the right job."

State law requires that 21 days must pass before his presidency becomes official.  He'll start in August.
