A Lubbock man is facing felony charges tonight after officials say he pretended to be a police officer and robbed a man.

36-year-old Bobby Martinez is charged with impersonating a public servant and robbery.  Police say around 4:30 Sunday morning, Martinez approached a man riding a bicycle down the 2700 Block of 38th Street.  He told the victim he was an undercover cop searching for burglarly suspects and proceeded to tell the victim he had to hand over his belongings.  Police say Martinez took off with the man's bike, bookbag, wallet, and cell phone.  Police say the victim quickly realized Martinez had tricked him and flagged down a driver to help chase him.  They held him until the real police arrived.
Police say to make sure this doesn't happen to you, just always ask any person who claims to be an officer to show you their badge.  Every Lubbock police officer is required to carry a badge with them at all times.
