Ticks and Fleas Invade Lubbock

By: Allison Morrison
Updated: July 18, 2008

Humid conditions from the recent rainfall are bringing unwanted pests to the South Plains.

And this time, mosquitoes aren't the problem.

Pest control companies are now busy managing the growing tick and flea population.

Kevin Coomer with Quality Pest Control says the humidity kills mosquitoes, but allows ticks and fleas to thrive.

He adds, stray animals around your neighborhood might be adding to the problem.

"If you can get some of the cats away, if they're just stray cats maybe, have somebody trap those, you can call the city, and that will help as well," Coomer says.

He also recommends cutting back on how often you water your lawn.

Coomer says it will help to get rid of ticks and fleas.
