Summer Heat Deadly For Pets

The summer heat in West Texas can quickly turn your car into an oven.
And leaving a helpless dog in your car could turn deadly.
Owner of Pets Plus, Richard Evans, says it only takes minutes for an abandoned dog to feel the effects from the heat.
Evans says it's important to treat your dog like you would your child.
He says, "Pets become so much of a family that they take them with them most places, but then there are some places that don't allow pets and so they're out running around and they realize, 'oh I got this errand to run, but I can't take my dog home, so I'll just keep 'em in the car for a few minutes' and then sometimes a few minutes turns into several minutes and then too long."
Animal Services encourages you to call them or police if you see a pet left in a car- especially on hot days.
