The Lubbock County Jail and Lubbock Animal Shelter are trying to guard against a tuberculosis outbreak after a detention officer is diagnosed with the infectious disease. The officer was diagnosed with TB early this week. He worked with groups of inmates on city projects, including cleaning up the animal shelter. Any inmates or workers that came in contact with the officer are being tested for TB. The sheriffs office says theyre taking every precaution to ward off an outbreak. Says Sheriff David Gutierrez, "Our doctor, the general doctor, is not concerned, hes monitoring and were following all protocol. Were doing what were supposed to be doing, so as far as were concerned, of course were concerned, but its not at a crisis, period."
