Hot temperatures could be the cause of death for one local utility worker.

On Wednesday, EMS crews were called out to assist a Lubbock Power and Light employee who was believed to be suffering from a heat related illness while working in the 97 degree temperatures.

He later died.

University Medical Center's, Dr. Joe Sasin, says it is unusual to hear of a heat-related death in this area.

He says, "We don't see very many cases and that's very fortunate since we live in a very hot environment."

Dr. Sasin recommends wearing light clothing and staying hydrated to reduce your risk of heat related illnesses.

And now at least one local company wants to make sure it's employees are protected from the heat.
