Daphne certainly does not enjoy the heat, but does enjoy the people that check on her.
"I like them better than I do their meals."Everyday, nearly 620 hot meals are delivered to the elderly around Lubbock.
"I just love it, I just love these people."The food, though, is not their only focus.
Karl and Bonnie Craig are two of the 1100 volunteers that are the eyes and ears of the program.
They make sure the elderly are surviving the extreme heat.
"No air conditioning, no fans."
"Not quite as cool. If we see someone with problems...we think its just too hot here...we leave a note on their sheet by their name and say tell someone they need some help!"
"These are people who are vulnerable, who are fragile"
"It's easier for them to get
confused, for them to get overheated. There are ways that we can get supplies
sometimes of that nature depending on the need.
Or a call to family members or things of that nature. So it's taking care and watching because the
elderly are very frail especially this time of year."
