According to Captain Greg Stevens of Lubbock Police, the child was born alive despite the mother's claims that the child was was stillborn.

Police are still treating this as a suspicious death until further investigation proves otherwise.

The county medical examiner is awaiting toxicology reports.

Child Protective Services has removed one child from the home where the dead infant was found.

CPS officials say they have investigated multiple accusations in the home. None involved the mother and none have resulted in any action.
