Crime scene tape is still up and investigators have been in and out of the home of the prominent doctor found dead inside his home.

We spoke to Mayor Glen Robertson who says he's concerned.

"It's very concerning that these murders are taking place and the only way to stop that is a good police force."

The second Lubbock homicide with in a week.

Most recently the death of 57 year old Dr. Joseph Sonnier.

Police said he was found dead inside his home , after a landscape worker noticed a broken window  in the back of Sonnier's house.

"We don't know the circumstance of the latest murder."

Even though Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson has been in office for two months, he's already started looking into solutions to lower crime rate.

"It concerns me, as it does every other citizen of Lubbock," said Robertson.

Robertson said the Lubbock police force is short by 45 police officers.

"We truly need to get our police department up to the two per thousand level that is recommended," he said/

Robertson said there are about 200 candidates who are being reviewed to enter the police academy, that number will be narrowed down to the needed 40 to 45 people to complete the 460 officers Lubbock needs.

"We need more feet on the street our police men are our first line of defense."

Police said Sonnier's death is the sixth homicide they have investigated this year, causing citizens to be fearful.

"I don't think we need to cause panic but to be concerned yes we always need to be concerned," said Robertson.
