A Look at the Two Suspects in Dr. Sonnier's Murder

He has ties to Texas Tech University. He was a research assistant in the Department of Pathology from 1994-1996. He then graduated from Tech with a medical degree in 1998, and stayed with the school until 2001 as a general surgery resident. He is also a prominent figure in Amarillo, and was had appeared on TV in Amarillo as a medical expert. Dixon had been married once before.
Dixon spent Monday night at the Lubbock County Jail.
David Neal Shepard is the other accused murderer. According to the affidavit, Shepard was a colleague of Dr. Dixon. In 2011, Shepard became Director of Physicians Ancillary Services in Amarillo. Before that, he owned Hot Tubs To Go. He and his wife Laurie Dayle Shepard file for Chapter 13 Bankruptcy in 2004, and then divorced in 2010.
Shepard spent Monday night in Amarillo, as he had an outstanding warrant in Randall County. He had been arrested in 2001 for theft and was sentenced to 10 years deferred probation and costs.
