1. Golden Day for the US at the Olympics

Americans won eight medals at the Olympics on Thursday - six gold, one silver and one bronze. Michael Phelps grabbed a gold, his 20th Olympic medal, in the 200m individual medley and Gabby Douglas won the gold in the women's gymnastics all-around competition.

2. Weak US Hiring Report Due This Morning

Economists predict a weak jobs report, released this morning. The unemployment rate is expected to remain 8.2%.

3. One Dead, Dozens Injured in Megabus Crash

A megabus crashed into an Illinois interstate bridge support pillar, killing one person and injuring dozens more. Investigators are looking into reports that a blown tire is to blame for the crash.

4. Kofi Annan Steps Down as Envoy to Syria

Kofi Annan, the UN's special envoy to Syria, has resigned from his post. The former UN secretary-general's announcement comes as Syria is plagued by a sharp uptick in violence.

5. Chick-fil-A Supporters Turn Out Across US

Chick-fil-A set a one-day sales record amid the ongoing controversy over the company president's public stance against same-sex marriage. Conservative talk show host Mike Huckabee encouraged consumers with the same beliefs to patronize the chain on Thursday. Gay activists are planning nationwide rallies at the restaurants today.
