Armando Gonzales is asking City Council for a chance for Lubbock residents to have their opinion heard on the matter. The city signed a contract in May leasing land to a company on a natural gas and oil lease. The land in question is located by 50th Street and East Loop.
Gonzales said he felt the city ignored the citizens input on the issue and he is going to fight. "No public input at all," said Gonzales. "The citizens, the residents had no say in the city leasing to frackers, that's what got me started on this."
The petition online outlines what some residents are concerned about, including environmental issues, health issues, and the aftermath of fracking in an area.
Gonzales is a part of the online petition and helped get fracking put on the City Council agenda for Thursday night.
