One of the best parts about getting ready for the new school year is picking out new school supplies, but some area families cant afford these necessary materials. Thats where the South Plains Food Bank comes in to help. Theyve started a "Stuff the Bus" campaign with collection barrels located at all United Supermarkets. Just this year theres been a 20% increase in the number of needy families in the South Plains. "With high fuel prices and high food costs were seeing that the needs are really great this year. So were asking people to step up and when youre going to the grocery store or shopping for school supplies for your kids buy an extra ruler, and extra pack of paper," says David Weaver, Executive Producer of the South Plains Food Bank. Buses will be at most United Supermarkets this Saturday. Volunteers will be at the buses asking for school supplies or monetary donations. Theyre also looking for volunteers to help sort and package the supplies.
