New 9-1-1 software coming to Lubbock is one of the first of its kind in Texas.

It will be up and running in September and can save you money.

Right now, the Lubbock Police Department receives all 9-1-1 calls.

And if it's an EMS call, LPD has to transfer that call to Lubbock EMS who then has to transfer it to the Lubbock Fire Department.

The new software is expected in less than a month.

Right now, the Lubbock Emergency Communication District is IP capable and the new software will make them IP enabled.

This means they will be able to transfer a 9-1-1 call from one center to multiple centers, so dispatchers from LPD and Lubbock EMS will be able to be on the line and get the information at the same time.

The software itself is about $100,000 and it's being paid for by a 9-1-1 service fee that's already on your phone bill.

Lubbock ECD Executive Director, Michael Grossie, says that the pirce of the software is well worth it.

He says, "It's hoped that it's going to speed up the dispatching of fire equipment and let the fire people gain more information to decide if they need to roll a fire truck on the call or not."

Grossie also says that once they receive the new software it will go through a trial run with police, fire and EMS before it is actually put in place.
