LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech freshman Emily Ehrle became the third Red Raider to earn a Big 12 weekly award this season Monday when she was tabbed the conference Rookie of the Week.

Ehrle led the Red Raiders with 46 kills over four matches last week, including double-digit kill totals over the final two matches at the Best Western Grant Creek Inn Invitational last weekend in Montana.

The Crowley, Texas native hit .293 over 14 sets, including a .432 mark against Furman where she connected on a career-high 23 kills. The performance marked the first time a Tech player had reached the 20-kill mark this season and was also the most kills in a match since Amanda Dowdy recorded 26 on Sept. 26 last year at New Mexico.

Ehrle was named to the Best Western Grant Creek Inn Invitational all-tournament team as she also recorded 13 kills in the finale against Montana to help the Red Raiders complete the week with a 10-1 overall record.

"It's a nice sense of respect for Emily's hard work," second-year head coach Don Flora said. "She came off the bench last week and really stepped up and delivered a solid performance in a five-set win over Furman. Our staff is proud of her hard work."

The selection marks the third-straight week a Texas Tech player has earned a conference award as Rachel Brummitt has picked up defensive nods twice already and Emily Ruetter was named the conference's top rookie a week ago as well.

The program had not previously earned a conference accolade in three consecutive weeks in school history. Texas Tech has now picked up seven weekly award selections in just over a season under Flora, a vast improvement over recent years where the program had been honored just 12 times prior to his arrival.

Carolina Jarmoc of Kansas was named the conference Offensive Player of the Week while her teammate Brianne Riley and Oklahoma's Maria Fernanda shared Defensive Player of the Week honors.

The Red Raiders return to action this weekend at the Rice Invitational where Texas Tech will face Houston Baptist, Cal State Northridge, and the host Owls in the two-day tournament that begins Friday afternoon at Tudor Fieldhouse.
