Earlier this evening, Texas Tech men's basketball coach Billy Gillispie landed in Lubbock after a short stay for what was called tests at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
In light of recent allegations that Coach Gillispie mistreated players and violated NCAA practice rules, the coach has been told by Texas Tech Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt that he cannot have contact with the basketball team and staff, and cannot take part in any of the day-to-day program operations, until two can meet face to face and discuss the situation.
At least one previous meeting between Gillispie and Hocutt was canceled after Gillispie was rushed to University Medical Center in Lubbock to be treated for what has been described as chest pains, brought on by high blood pressure and stress. Hocutt has stated that has not been able to talk about the situation with Gillispie since the hospitalization.
Assistant coach Chris Walker has assumed day-to-day control of the men's basketball program.
So far, there has been no reaction from Texas Tech officials to Gillispie's return and it is not known if Gillispie and Hocutt has scheduled a meeting.
