Toddler Ditched As Woman Steals Car

"My wife sent me to the store to get some pampers and stuff like that, I stopped here to drop off some liquor, I ran in the house for two minutes, my mistake I left my child in it with the car running. I come out, I was in the house maybe two seconds, three at the most. I seen somebody jump in my car and bolted that way," said Chris Vestal.
That's when Chris Vestal said he jumped into action, chasing his car down while calling 911.
"I thought I was going to pass out, I couldn't breathe," said Vestal.
Scared for his two year old son, Mikah, who was still inside the car.
"I was like 'Oh my god, if they get into a car wreck running from the cops with my son in it.' He could have possibly been killed or hurt real bad," said Vestal.
Minutes later, police spotted the Ford Taurus sitting in traffic at the South Loop and Quaker. The driver jumped out of the car and tried making a run for it.
"They just took off and ran from the cops and they wouldn't stop for the police so they just took off running," said Vestal.
Police were able to arrest the driver, but Mikah was no where to be found. Vestal said Mikah, his car seat, and diaper bag, were dropped off at the Genoa Apartments. Residents there called 911. Then police were able to reunite Mikah with his very worried parents.
"I'm just happy, I just didn't want to let him go, I was really happy that they found him," said Vestal.
Vestal gives all the credit to the Lubbock Police Department for finding Mikah so quickly. But he asks other parents to never make the mistake he made.
"It doesn't matter if you're running in the house to get a drink of water, take your kid with you and take your keys man, I could care less about the damn car, they could have totaled it and kept the damn thing, but my son man, that's the worst thing ever i never want that to happen to nobody, please please please just take care of your kids," said Vestal.
