Out of the thousands of prosecutors across the state Powell was chosen and awarded Prosecutor of the year by the Criminal Justice Section of the State Bar of Texas.  His peers with the Texas District and County Attorney's Association nominated him for the award and Powell says he is just humbled.
"It's always flattering to receive an award from your peers but when you receive one for something you just absolutely love to do...this is an office wide award but for the tremendous hard work of our prosecutors, investigators, and staff I mean I don't win this award so it's as much an office wide award as it is mine.  I've been extremely blessed to work with some of the brightest most caring people there are in the world and it's just an honor for me to get to go to work with them everyday."

Matt Powell has been the Lubbock County District Attorney since December of 2005.
