A community college may be coming to East Lubbock sooner than expected. Several prominent community members spoke to the city council today to ask for their support in starting a two-year community college. Turns out, South Plains College, whose Lubbock branch is located on the west side of the city, wants to branch out to East Lubbock. Floyd Price believes his district should focus resources on high schools and lowering drop-out rates first before thinking about college. "If youre gonna have a university there, a two-year college there, we need to get back and have the students there to attend that college," says Price. South Plainss Vice President for Academic Affairs Darrell Grimes says hell meet Friday with the men and women who spoke at City Hall. They will discuss plans to use existing facilities to start teaching classes in East Lubbock as soon as possible.
