Almost a surprising optimism after a month of drama surrounding the Texas Tech Basketball team.
"I'm hopeful for the season, you know, I'm a fan of Texas Tech and their basketball program so i'm excited," said Okon.
Gillispie's first and only season at Texas Tech is scarred and most likely will only be remembered for the negative publicity, including the team's losing record.
"They honestly can't get any worse than they already did, it can only go up from here, so it's a good thing really," said Joliviette.
Most students agreed: it will be up to the former acting coach, Chris Walker, to shine in his new role as associate head coach.
"I mean if he can make a huge turn around with the season, then i mean it shouldn't be too bad then."
But if he can't, these players said Walker will be the one held responsible, not the players on the court.
"I mean if anything doesn't go right, they're going to blame the coach first and foremost. It's a whole bunch of pressure on him, he has to make a huge turn around for the team, if he doesn't, then it's gonna go downhill instead of climbing up."
But for these students, the goal is to look forwards, not backwards.
"I think he'll do pretty good, I have faith in him, either way he'll be pretty good. We gotta make a huge turn around this season."
