Police are investigating a homicide in Levelland that was called in just before 4:30 Friday afternoon in the 300 block of Avenue M.

Sgt. Daniel Hancock with the Levelland Police Department said the call came in as a shots fired and the first officer on scene found a man dead in the street.

No details on the suspect or victim were available early Friday evening but police said a person of interest is in custody.

None of the neighbors we spoke with would talk on camera but all said Friday's shooting mostlikely involved drugs.

Neighbors also said both the victim and the suspect have lengthy criminal records.

Friday's shooting is the first shooting in Levelland since 2006.
