Texas Inmate Prepares for 3rd Trip Death House

LIVINGSTON, Texas -- Twice in the past year and a half, Cleve Foster has stood at the threshold of the Texas death chamber only to get a reprieve from the U.S. Supreme Court.

What he remembers most about his brushes with death is the heavy steel door at the Huntsville prison that condemned prisoners walk through before they're executed by lethal injection.

The 48-year-old Foster says he couldn't take his eyes off the door both times he awaited his execution.

Foster will stand at the death chamber door for a third time Tuesday unless the court again intercedes.

Foster was convicted of taking part in the abduction and murder of a 30-year-old woman near Fort Worth more than 10 years ago. He denies any role in the slaying.
