Today was the first day of testimony in the capital murder trial of Reynaldo Rey.

After opening arguments, the jury heard the testimony of detectives who first investigated the scene in June 1989. About 145 photos of the crime scene were entered into evidence.

Those were very graphic photos. A few of the victim's family members had to leave the courtroom for that part of the trail. There were about thirteen of Minnie Elkins' family members present.

After lunch, jurors heard testimony from current detectives both from Lubbock and Madera, CA where Rey was arrested last year.

Finally, jurors heard from two Department of Public Safety forensic scientists who examined the body hair that links Rey to the crime scene.
