Local Organization's Profits Dampened at South Plains Fair

Rain didn't wash away business for the Elks Lodge.
"We lost a little bit of profits because it's slow," volunteer Casey Rains said. "But other than that, when the sun comes out it's nice, it's packed. Nothing to worry about. Everything's good. We're alright."
But it did for the Frenship High School Theatre Department.
"We did about half of what we usually have done," said senior Dillon Edwards.
These organizations depend on the crowds at the South Plains Fair to get them through the year.
"We really need the money," said Randy Teeter, Chief of the New Deal Fire Department.
The department is using this year's profits to finish their new fire station.
Teeter said the rain is to blame for about a 10 percent loss in profit.
"I know it's gonna hurt. It's gonna hurt a little bit but that's okay," said Teeter.
Despite that the department will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from today to the Susan G. Komen foundation.
"It's an organization we've supported for about three years and unfortunately this last year it's kind of hit home with some of our members a little bit," said Teeter. "We've had some family members that are part of the Susan G. Komen family now."
