After scoring twice this weekend and six times in the previous five matches, Texas Tech sophomore midfielder Paige
Strahan has been named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week.
The
announcement by the Big 12 Conference
on Tuesday comes after Strahan helped guide the Red Raiders to a sweep
of Oklahoma and Iowa State in a pair of home matches this weekend. With
the sweep, Texas Tech improved to 10-3 and 2-1 in conference play.
Strahan
scored the game-winner in Sunday's
2-1 victory over Iowa State after netting the opening goal of Texas
Tech's 2-1 win over Oklahoma on Friday night. The Odessa, Texas native
has a current five-match scoring streak dating back to Texas Tech's
Sept. 16 victory over Cal State Fullerton to match
the longest by a Red Raider since the 2009 season.
"Full credit goes to Paige," head soccer
coach Tom Stone said.
"She came in fit and has worked hard in her game ever since January. There is a fearlessness about her that is contagious."
Strahan leads the team in game-winning
goals with four this year, and is second on the team in scoring and points with seven goals and 15 points through Sunday.
Her four game-winning goals are tied for
the lead in the Big 12.
The Big 12 Player of the Week honor is
the third won by a Texas Tech player this season, as junior Jessica Fuston and
freshman Janine Beckie have
each garnered weekly honors previously this year.
The
Red Raiders will continue their season
long four-match homestand Friday when they host Baylor at the John
Walker Soccer Complex. First kick for the Big 12 showdown is set for 7
p.m. as Texas Tech will look to remain unbeaten in home games this year.
