Police say a Toyota pickup was going east on the loop, driving on the outside lane of the curve that heads to the Slide Road overpass.
That's when a motorcycle came from behind at a high rate of speed, and lost control on the curve. Police say the motorcycle hit the pickup, crashed, and skidded for about 200 feet.
Police tell us the motorcycle driver was in "seriously critical" condition when EMS took him to UMC.
After notifying his next-of-kin, Police identified him as 34-year-old Jason Smart, from Idalou.
Police did not ticket the driver of the pickup.
Officers completely blocked off the Loop from the Spur exit to Slide road for several hours as they conducted their investigation.
