Tenants Outraged By A Letter Telling Them To "Find a Place In The Jungle"

The man we talked with say they received a letter from the New Orleans Apartment owners, with a little sticker on it saying 'Make sure you pay your rent on time.'

They say they thought nothing of it, opened the letter and saw it was about noise in the complex.

But, as they continued reading they came across the problem as they read "Find a place in the jungle."

KLBK has tried to get a hold of the owners in California but we have yet to hear back.

The men say they were shocked to see the letter and say clearly it's a racial slur.

"The fact remains that racism is alive and well and its going to always be," said Wilson Perry.

"He asked me did you get one of these, and I said 'Yeah, I got one," said Monte Smith.

            Perry, Smith and George Truss are furious.

They are three out of seven tenants who received a letter from their apartment owners.

            The men say the letter was hand delivered, telling them to stop complaining about noise

            But the letter went much further than just that.     

"If you do not want to hear any noise and cannot tolerate noise or any commotion we suggest you find a place in the jungle," read Smith from the letter.

"He called me yesterday went to cursing and talking about like he did just a minute ago talking about she said yes she wrote the letter and if we didn't like it we could get out and all that kind of stuff," said Truss.

"I think that's a racist remark," he said.

"They can take it anyway they want to take it,"said the apartments manager Juan Arcos.

            He delivered the letter saying he was only doing his job.

"I just did what my boss told me to do," he said.

"But if they don't like it, there is the street, there is another street or look for somewhere else fine."

            Arcos claims some of the tenants we spoke with are behind on rent.

"That's why I work more with the white people, because they help me more than anybody else,"  said Arcos.

When I asked him 'So, you take care of the white people?'

He said, "Yes, oh yea, that's the way I am."

"You're thinking I'm prejudice, I;m not prejudice everybody going to die go to the same place," he said.

            He says no ones going to receive an apology from him because he didn't write the letter, even thought his name was printed on it.

"Really I didn't know my name was there if it was there, I am ashamed, embarrassed, yea real bad."

"When you write it and you send it out you know that you can't take it back," said Perry,

"Move to the moon, but when it comes down to 'find you a place in the jungle,' that was racially motivated."
