"There are people who are finally looking at home ownership as something they can achieve," Perez-Ruiz said. "It's an American dream that is still achievable."
And experts are saying there is no better time to make that dream a reality than now.
Lubbock was recently named one of the top most-improved markets and local realtor Debora Perez-Ruiz said that is good news for home buyers and sellers.
"I think everyone is realizing it is not as doom and gloom as they say," Perez-Ruiz said. "Especially in Lubbock. We didn't have the highs, so were not going to have the lows and that's a good thing for both buyers and sellers."
Perez-Ruiz said the best excise to buy a new home is the low interest rates.
"The biggest reason to buy right now is our interest rates," Perez-Ruiz said. "They are at 3% and that is something we never dreamed back in the 80s when interest rates were 13-18%."
Tana Patterson, Sales Manager of Vintage Township, said she thinks the housing market is booming because of all the people coming to Lubbock.
"Right now in Lubbock there is kind of an influx of folks coming in," Patterson said. "I see a lot of people coming in and I always ask them what brings you to Lubbock? They always say its the jobs and the job opportunity."
The employment rate is one of three reasons why Lubbock was named most-improved.
"Three different criteria," Perez-Ruiz said. "That starts with new housing, housing appreciation and employment rate."
Perez-Ruiz said real estate is one of the safest investments people can make- that is why it is still part of the American dream.
"No one dreams to rent," Perez-Ruiz said. "They dream to own, and its not going away and we don't want it to."
