The former Texas Tech School of Nursing now operates under a different name -- That of Texas' First Lady, Anita Thigpen Perry.

Tech announced the renaming earlier this month, and today Mrs. Perry and her husband, Governor Rick Perry, made a stop in Lubbock for the unveiling ceremony.

Anita is a former nurse of 17 years.  She's dedicated much of her life to continuing education in healthcare.

When tech was thinking of renaming the school, “Anita Perry” was one name school officials say was an obvious choice.

Dr. John Baldwin, TTUHSC President: “Clearly she has been a great leader of healthcare, and as a nurse with such a distinguished record, we could hardly ask for a better opportunity to name this fine school of nursing.”

Tech's nursing program ranks among the top in the nation, and it's the only ranked nursing school in West Texas.
