
Lubbocks first all-girls school --The School for Young Women Leaders-- opened its doors on Monday, making it a pioneer among Texas public schools. The school is one of only 4 public all-girls schools in the state. Its partnering with the dallas-based Foundation for the Education of Young Women, and promises to provide a focus on college-prep academics, leadership, and health awareness. Girls were required to apply to the new school. The 2008 school year started with around 130 girls in grades 6 and 7.
