At 77 years old, Sylvia Williams did something yesterday she could have been doing for the past 60 years.

She cast her first vote.

"My granddaughter came in and told me you have to go vote," Williams said.  "'I said wait a minute I ain't never voted in my life. I don't know what to do when i go up there?' and she said ill show you."

Williams said she cast her vote at the Patterson Library.

"There was so many people out there who still went and voted yesterday," Williams said. "So I was in the crowd so I was very happy."

She said she never voted before because she did not have the time.

"I just really didn't vote because I was busy working trying to make money to take care of  myself with," Williams said. "I never took time out when I would come in from work."

Williams said she had some good news waiting for her when she woke up this morning.

She found out the candidate she voted for was the winner.

"It was very exciting and my great granddaughter came in there talking about 'Momma your vote counted!' Williams said"

Over ninety thousand people cast their vote in Lubbock County but not all of them were as excited at the results as Williams.

"I was upset, my parents were upset, my freinds were upset," Courtney Russo said.

"I am a Republican so I wasn't really hoping for that, but now that he is I am really excited," Julianne Henderson said.

Others told us they are just happy the elections are over.

"I'm just glad that we have elected somebody and now we can move on," Jim Gatteys said.  "It's not so much about who is bad, who is good, but we elected him so now we need to find a way to work together, both of us, all parties."

Now that the election is over Williams is telling everyone she will be voting again.

"If I live to see the Lord bless me, I'll vote again," Williams said.
