Local Attorney Reminds Co. Judge of UN Gaffe

"All this talk about recession and revolution...really? You know what makes this country great basically is that we can have this conversation, we can have an election, we can disagree and then the people decide and we all move forward," said Attorney Rod Hobson.

Hobson says his UN flags are flying high today. He put those flags up in August in response to County Judge Tom Head's comments that Lubbock needed to be ready for civil unrest and an invasion of United Nations troops if President Obama was reelected.

"Just to remind everybody of Judge Head's, jug-head as we call him, idiotic comments and you know in case, maybe on the off chance that he is right we want to make sure that the UN is welcome," said Hobson.

Judge Head today declined to comment on last night's election. But he's not the only public official in Texas who's made bold statements in the past. In 2009, Governor Rick Perry spoke about the possibility of Texas seceding from the union.

"I've heard several of those comments, I've heard it from the governor too," said Harvey Morton.

"And you know I saw an assistant district attorney today had actually posted something talking about secession, that Texas should secede and it bothers me some," said Hobson, "That kind of talk is not helpful. Especially when it comes from public officials."

For now, the only UN soldier Hobson has seen is his dog Heidi patrolling his downtown law office.

"I mean the bottom line of a deal like that is what do you with a deal like that. You can laugh or you can cry. I mean surely he was not serious, and if he was serious he needs to find another line of work," said Hobson.
