"I would like to think that people would remember our veterans and even those that are not considered veterans yet, but are active duty people who are giving so much for our freedoms from around the world," said George Goretskie, a Vietnam War.

He has two sons currently serving in the military---one in the Air Force and one training to be a Navy Seal.

"For me it's a family tradition. My grandparents, my great grandparents were involved from the civil war on," said Goretskie.

Goretskie was one of more than a hundred people gathered at the Silent Wings Museum Sunday afternoon to commemorate veterans young and old.

"I see kind of a common thread of desire to serve and be a part of something greater than yourself amongst all of the veterans from all the different wars here," said James Doherty, an officer in the Army, studying to be a doctor with the Army Medical Corps.

Doherty says he's been to multiple Veterans' Day events around Lubbock this weekend.

"Lubbock definitely lets the veterans know how they feel, that they care about them," said Doherty.

Goretskie says the event at the Silent Wings Museum helped make it a special day for him.

"To help us to understand that we are citizens first and we are more about peace than we are about war, so that made it a pretty special day," said Goretskie.
