ARLINGTON, Texas: Sammy Sosa hit his 600th home run Wednesday night against his
former team, the Chicago Cubs, as the Rangers won, 7-3, in front of 37,564 at
Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
Sosa hit the historic blast in the fifth inning off Chicago starter Jason Marquis, and Frank Catalanotto followed with a solo shot of his own, giving the Rangers a 6-1 edge.
The Rangers scored six runs against Marquis, who gave up five hits and four walks over five innings. Catalanotto drove in run No. 7 with an RBI single in the seventh.
Texas starter Kameron Loe put together a second consecutive solid outing, going 6 2/3 innings, allowing six hits, three runs (all earned) with four strikeouts.
Alfonso Soriano started the game with a double, but Loe came back with a big breaking ball to strike out Felix Pie. He then retired Derrek Lee and Cliff Floyd to end the threat. Soriano did cross the plate, hitting a solo home run off Loe in the fifth. Koyie Hill pulled the Cubs to within three with a two-run shot off Loe in the seventh inning, but the Rangers prevailed.
The Rangers beat the Cubs for the first time in Texas, to even the series at one game apiece.
