LUBBOCK, Texas (November 12, 2012) - Haley Burton and Courtney Wilson each contributed 16 points and they were two of five Lady Chaparrals in double figures, as No.1 Lubbock Christian University rolled to a 91-64 win over McMurry University Monday night inside Rip Griffin Center.

The Lady Chaps jumped right out of the gates with a 10-0 lead and holding McMurry off the scoreboard for the opening 3:11 of the game. The Lady Chaps shot 69.0 % (20/29) in the opening half and also used an 11-0 run midway through the half to eventually take a 50-23 halftime lead. Emily Atkins nailed a trio of three-pointers in the opening half to lead all scorers in the first half with 13 points. LCU benefited off a 30-10 scoring advantage in the paint during the half and they held McMurry to 27.3% (9/33) from the field during the half.

The second half was evenly played with both teams scoring 41 points. LCU led as much as 61-27 in the second half, but McMurry made things interesting with a 14-3 run to cut the LCU lead to 73-52 with 9:30 remaining. The Lady Chaps responded with a 12-3 run to lead 85-55 and they avoided any late surge by the War Hawks. McM produced a 12-0 scoring advantage in the half off second chance points due mostly in part to a 20-14 rebound advantage.

Burton and Wilson were joined in double figures for LCU by Atkins (15), Fowler (12) and Hampton (11). The five combined to shoot 25/33 (80.6%) from the field, with Wilson (6/6) and Hampton (4/4) each perfect from the field. Hampton produced her third straight double-double with 10 assists to go along with her 11 points, and was three rebounds shy of a triple-double. LCU was 34/57 from the field (59.6%) and was 9/17 from three-point range (52.9%). McM was led by a 14-point outing by Ana Dominguez in the losing cause. Lubbock native Claire Bruffey had 12 points for the 'Hawks, with all the points coming in the second half.

The meeting between the two squads was the first since Dec. 29, 2001 and LCU holds a 28-11 edge all-time against McM. The two teams will become conference foes next season, as LCU makes the transition to the NCAA Div. II and the Heartland Conference.

The win places LCU with a 6-0 mark on the season, while McM falls to 0-2. The Lady Chaps head to Denver for a pair of weekend games, beginning with a Friday night meeting against NCAA Div. II No.2 Metro State at 8 p.m. Scott Larson will have the call of the game on KJAK 92.7 FM and online at www.lcuchaps,com.
