Frenship I.S.D. is pleased to announce four Frenship High School athletes are continuing their careers and signing national letters of intent with their respective chosen universities.

Stephen Smith is signing to play baseball at Texas Tech University, Kyle Rutherford is signing to play baseball with New Mexico State University, Jack Vanderburg is signing to play golf at Texas Tech University, and Amber Bowman is signing to play volleyball at Hardin Simmons University. All four athletes will sign their intent during a ceremony on Wednesday, November 14 at 10:00 a.m. in the Frenship High School library.

Smith, already a three-year letter winner on the baseball diamond, has helped lead the Tigers to two district championships and three playoff appearances in three years. During his junior year in 2012, Smith batted .442 with an on-base percentage of .611. His success at the plate included seven doubles, five triples, five home runs and 26 runs batted in. Smith was also 2-2 as a starting pitcher with an earned run average of 2.27 and 54 strikeouts in 37 innings. Smith was named the District 3-4A Player of the Year and a second team all-state selection in 2012.

Rutherford, also a three-year letter winner, was a first-team District 3-4A selection as a starting pitcher in 2012. He finished his junior campaign with a 5-2 record on the mound and a 3.67 ERA. He recorded 47 strikeouts in 42 innings pitched, and the highlight of his junior campaign was pitching a no-hitter against Hereford.

Vanderburg, a three-year letter winner in the Frenship golf program, has led the Tigers to three consecutive appearances in the Class 4A state golf tournament. Vanderburg, the District 3-4A champion in 2011, has finished in the individual top 10 at the state tournament each of the last two years, helping him earn first team all-state honors in 2011 and 2012. Entering his senior campaign, Vanderburg is currently ranked second in the state for Class 4A individual golfers.

Bowman, a two-year letter winner, led the 2012 Tigers to the District 4-4A championship. She proved to be the Tigers' biggest threat at the net, compiling 400 kills and 54 blocks during her senior campaign. She also had 83 digs and 52 assists on the year. She was recently named District 4-4A first team all-district and academic all-state.
