Veterans Job Fair Pairs Vets with Potential South Plains Employers

Workforce Solutions South Plains worked to put the job fair together, in an effort to help veterans in the South Plains find work.  The job fair was one of 27 held across the state for veterans.

According to Danny Soliz with Workforce Solutions South Plains, more than 150 veterans attended the job fair with more than 60 different companies.

He considered the event a success because of the number of employees who said they would have a second interview or possibly hire one of the veterans they met Thursday.

He read a statement from one company in attendance, "Some job fairs, we may talk to 200 to 300 people, and have 2 to 4 qualified people, here we had 35 to 40 people who came by, and most of them were qualified," said Soliz.

Soliz also said he wanted this to be more than just a job fair where people see potential employers. "I want this to be a hiring event, these people want to work, and they have families to support now that they are out of the service," said Soliz.

Soliz also said they would consider doing another veterans only job fair after the success this year.
