Lubbock police aren't releasing many details at this time but they did say the 4-month-old baby girl was rushed to UMC and that's where she was pronounced dead.

KLBK spoke to several people in the neighborhood, most say they're shocked, but one neighbor called Tanguma unstable.

"I cant believe he did it to his own child," said Stephanie Ramirez

"Its sickening," said Jimmy Pittman.

Lubbock police said 19-year-old Jacob Tanguma killed his 4-month-old daughter, possibly by suffocation.

"I showed up about 9:30," said Gracie Casteneda, "that's when I seen all the ambulances, police men, and fire trucks, I was just wondering what was going on."

Police said they responded to a call of a baby not breathing around 8:55 Tuesday morning hours after a neighbor of Tanguma's said he heard screaming.

"They were arguing at 6 in the morning when I was trying to go to sleep," said neighbor Zach Gaona.

He said he's been around Tanguma and he wasn't surprised when he heard what happened.

"You can just tell by the way he gets mad easily that he's not physically, emotionally, unstable," said Gaona, "I was waiting for it to happen."

But others in the neighborhood said they can't believe it.

"How can someone do that to their own baby," said Ramirez.

"Just to know that a baby had been murdered in the apartments that I live, in makes you second guess where you're living," said Pittman.

"It's just a baby, what's baby going to do to you," said Dianne Saenz

Gaona tells us ongoing tension between the baby's mother and Tanguma could have been what caused a father to kill his 4-month-old daughter.

"She was threatening to move back to houston and taking away his rights to see her," said Gaona.

LPD said the investigation is still on going.

After talking to neighbors KLBK found out Tanguma was from Houston and the baby's mother is also a teenager.
