Political experts here in Lubbock were surprised to hear McCains choice for VP, but they also say this nomination is right in line with the Mavericks nature. We now have three senators and a governor on the presidential tickets. The first African American to be nominated and the first Republican female. Political science professor Craig Goodman believes senator McCain added energy and enthusiasm to his campaign just by choosing Sarah Palin as a running mate. "In some respects it really fits with who John McCain is. This idea of a maverick, a guy whos gonna do it his way and really reach out and find a candidate who shares some of his attributes in that regard," says Goodman. He believes both Senators McCain and Obama made wise choices. Goodman says Senator Biden will help to unify the Democrats and provide national security expertise.
