"The most important red flag is if it sounds too good to be true it usually is."

When shopping for discount deals online Cyber Monday be careful where you buy from.

"You want to be watching the sites that you go to. If it's an unknown site you should always check it out with the Better Business Bureau. You can search that online, whatever, it's best not to shop from unknown stores."

When it comes to checking out online think twice before using a debit card linked to your personal account.

"If you use your debit card to your bank before you know what's happened that money can be gone. By the end of the day within hours they can have cleaned out your bank account."

Peggy suggested putting money on a prepaid debit card so if hackers got your information they only had that specific amount of money to take, or use a credit card.

"You can dispute items on your credit card and it doesn't take all of your money out of your account."

But most importantly you need to pay attention to the small details when you go to the checkout page of any website.

"When you get ready to checkout on a secure website you notice that the http:// turns into an https:// and a lock appears in the address bar as well...and when you see that lock you know they are using incription and they are doing their best to protect your information."
