LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas
Tech
freshman forward Janine Beckie has been named to the Top Drawer Soccer
Freshmen Team of the Year as announced by the national publication
Wednesday.
A
first team selection, Beckie is one
of just two Big 12 rookies to be named to the postseason squad after
pacing the Red Raiders with 14 goals and five assists in 2012.
The
Highlands Ranch, Colo., native becomes
the second Red Raider in four years to be named to the Freshmen Team of
the Year as Taylor Lytle earned second team honors in 2008.
Beckie,
the Big 12 Rookie of the Year,
was one of four Red Raiders to be named to the All-Big 12 First Team in
2012 as Texas Tech set a school record with 16 wins and advanced to the
second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Beckie
jumped onto the national scene
as one of the top forwards in the country tallying five game-winning
goals during her remarkable rookie campaign. She scored twice in the Red
Raiders' dramatic double-overtime loss to top-seeded and current Final
Four participant Florida State in the second
round of the NCAA Tournament at the Seminole Soccer Complex in
Tallahassee, Fla.
Her 14 goals are the second most in school
history by a freshman and the most since 1996 while she paced Tech in six offensive categories.
Beckie recorded three multi-goal games
in 2012 and was tabbed as the Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week on Nov. 1.
