The night gets bright with Texas Tech Carol of Lights

"Carol of lights is an opportunity for the students of Texas Tech campus to celebrate the start of the new holiday season. We do a lighting ceremony outside where we turn on about 25,000 lights, lighting 13 buildings in the center of campus."
The Residence Hall Association at Texas Tech lights up the campus every year at Christmas with thousands of lights.
"I just want to see it because I love Christmas lights so I think it's going to be really pretty."
The Women's Service organization created a 20 foot wreath for the ceremony and lights were strung up days in advance. But all those lights and decorations can get expensive so Texas Tech is converting to L.E.D lights.
"L.E.D bulbs are much more efficient. We estimate it will save us about 85% on our electric bill because of the switch over there and the plastic bulbs are a lot more durable."
There have been changes each year to the show but in it's 54th year the Carol of Lights tradition has reached far beyond just the Tech campus.
"I actually knew about the Carol of the Lights, I'm from Virginia, and I knew about the lights before I even came to Tech. So I definitely want to jump on that chance to experience it."
