According to Texas Tech Police, the incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, when all the lights were off prior to the Carol of Lights ceremony.

The student told police she was sitting near the east side of the Old Mass Communications building, when someone came up behind her, grabbed her ponytail, covered her mouth, and dragged her towards the north end of the building.

The student also told TTU PD that she was able to headbutt and elbow her attacker and run back to Memorial Circle.  She said there were no witnesses.

The student gave a brief description of her attacker, saying she believed it was a male, with large hands, and was possibly wearing boots.

"It's pretty disturbing, especially since carol of lights is like a family function, it's pretty much just to enjoy holiday spirit," said Kevin Kostler, a Tech student. "It's pretty crazy, and if someone is willing to do it right there in public, than they're willing to do it anywhere."

"It's definitely disconcerting, like that could happen to anybody, that could have been me, or my friends," said Rebecca Williams, a Tech freshman. "I'm glad that she was ok and able to get away."

Tech Police said they do not know why the attack happened, and that they did not find any evidence on scene and have no potential suspects.
