Santa to a Senior: Giving gifts to the elderly

"Well no one ever outgrows Christmas time and we all love to be remembered at Christmastime, and sometimes our seniors are left out."
There are many toy drives for children during the holidays but people often forget the senior citizens that may be alone during the holidays.
"It's older people and they don't have a lot of people so it's good to help someone when they're in need and you're able to help. It's just something that makes you feel better as a person."
The "Be a Santa to a Senior" program is in it's 9th year in Lubbock with Home Instead Senior Care, Meals on Wheels, and the Department of Family and Protective Services working together to bring sensible gifts to senior citizens.
"And a lot of things they are asking for are simple, practical things, like blankets, space heater, food items, socks, and just basic things that many of us take for granted."
You can pick up an ornament card at businesses around Lubbock that have the seniors gift request written on them. But it's not just the gift the seniors appreciate but also the company.
"So at Christmas time being alone and lonely can be especially exaggerated so we want to give them a practical gift item of their request and also to pay a visit to them. Spend a little time and give them some Christmas cheer."
