The Plainview City Council met Thursday for the first time since Captain Derrick McPherson was indicted on charges he assaulted a fellow officer while on duty.

McPherson is charged with hitting Amos Rodriguez in the back of the head while the two worked a security detail for Governor Rick Perry in July.

When KAMC contacted council members about the indictment last week, council members said they were unaware of the charges.

Members left Thursday's work session having not been briefed by City Manager Greg Ingham about the situation.

Mayor Wendell Dunlap has been given information about the situation regarding Cpt. McPherson; he met with Ingham and other city staff late Monday afternoon.

Despite being briefed, Dunlap has refused to share any information with the media or citizens, including whether or not McPherson has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with city policy.

On Thursday, Dunlap told KAMC he was "going to let this issue go," when asked why he had not pressed for more information from city staff.

Dunlap refused to comment on-camera when pressed by KAMC.

Ingham said his office may release an updated statement Friday responding to an earlier KAMC report that McPherson should have been placed on administrative leave months ago.
