LUBBOCK, TEXAS -
Senior defensive back Cody Davis has been named to the 2012 Capital One
Academic-America First Team and becomes the first Texas Tech
football player to earn this honor since former quarterback Kliff
Kingsbury in 2002.
Davis
just recently returned from the National Football Foundation Awards
Dinner in New York City where he was one of 15 student-athletes
competing for the William
B. Campbell Trophy. He is one three Big 12 student-athletes represented
on the first team and the only defensive player.
Davis
is currently pursuing a master's degree in Management Information
Systems after earning his bachelor degree, with honors, in M.I.S. and
posting an impressive
3.7 grade point average. He currently maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA in
the graduate school and will complete his postgraduate degree in 2013.
Just
the ninth Academic All-America selection in Red Raider football
history, Davis has compiled over 350 career tackles during his four-year
career and logged
more solo tackles than any Tech player over the last decade.
Davis
will play the final game of his Texas Tech career on Dec. 28, when the
Red Raiders face the Minnesota Golden Gophers in the 2012 Meineke Car
Care Bowl of
Texas at Reliant Stadium in Houston. Tickets for the game are on sale
through the athletics ticket office or online at texastech.com.
