But things headed south in 2011, when Tech failed to make a bowl for the first time in 16 years. Even with the shortcomings, a senior-laden roster set high expectations for 2012.
And they exceeded them through the first seven games, rattling off six wins.
Then the Red Raiders lost four of their last five, ending the regular season two games over .500.
But before Tech could commemorate the season in the Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas, Tuberville was gone -- accepting the head coaching position at Cincinnati.
In three years, Tuberville was 20-17.
