Lubbock TX DOT Prepared for Chance of Snow

Winter weather has finally come to Lubbock and TX DOT has been hard at work, making sure they're ready to treat winter roads.
"Right now our guys are mounting their snow plows on their trucks as well as their material spreaders on the back of their trucks," said Dianah Ascencio of Lubbock's TX Department of Transportation.
She says they have been prepping these trucks days in advance of the projected first snowfall of the season, so they can keep you--and their drivers--safe.
"They are checking everything from the lights to the hydraulic system to even the windshield wipers to insure they are safe when they are out assuring that the roadways are safe for motorists this weekend," said Ascencio.
She says even though TX DOT is ready for the snow drivers need to be responsible and adjust their driving to the road conditions.
"We try our best to take care of the slick spots, but we always need the public's help when traveling in wintery weather to make sure they do their part by driving to conditions," said Ascencio.
Ascencio says her tips for traveling in winter weather are: drive slower, leave extra time to get to your destination, and keep distractions down to a minimum.
"Put that cell phone away, don't text, don't talk on the cell phone, concentrate on driving especially when there is a possibility there may be some slick road conditions," she said.
