LUBBOCK, Texas: Texas Tech junior QB Graham Harrell (Ennis, Texas) has to the preseason watch list for the
Maxwell Award, announced Tuesday by Maxwell Football Club president Ron
Jaworski. The Maxwell Award is presented annually to the nation’s top collegiate
football player.
While directing the nation’s top passing attack last
season, Harrell produced the fourth-best sophomore season in NCAA history with
4,555 yards and 38 touchdown passes. Additionally, Harrell and the Red Raider
offense orchestrated the greatest comeback in bowl history, erasing a 31-point
deficit with 7:47 to play in the third quarter in the Insight Bowl win over
Minnesota.
Harrell joins fellow Big 12 quarterbacks Chase Daniel
(Missouri), Colt McCoy (Texas) and Stephen McGee
(Texas A&M) and four other players from the Big 12 on the initial list of
64. Harrell is the first Texas Tech quarterback under Mike Leach named to the Maxwell Award preseason
list.
Semifinalists for the award will be announced in early
November and three finalists will be announced November
26.
The announcement of the 2005 Maxwell Award winner will
be made during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show that will be
broadcast on ESPN on December 6. The formal presentation will be made at the
Maxwell Football Club’s Awards Dinner in March 2008 at the Harrah’s
Entertainment Complex in Atlantic
