The Texas Tech Hurricane Research team just got back from Gustav on Thursday, and less than 24 hours later, they hit the road again, headed out to Hurricane Ike! The research team left last weekend for Louisiana. The deployed 20 weather stations along the coast to collect information. Its information that engineers will use to design structures that can withstand severe weather in the future. The team packed up on Friday to head out to another hurricane, this time, in the Florida Keys. Says team member Ian Giamannco, "During the seaosn, we may only be in Lubbock for 24 or 36 hours and then well go out the same way we came back in. It comes with the territory. You kinda know what youre getting into when you start it, and it does make for some long days, but hopefully its worth it in the end."
